Reinhardt Vanderschaeghe

I am a professional cellist, double bass player, and teacher. I began my cello journey at a young age and took up the double bass as an adult. I received my Master’s Degree in 2004 under the guidance of France Springuel at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in Belgium. I’ve also had the privilege of learning from great artists like Anner Bijlsma, Eric Wilson, Marie Hallynck, and Didier Poskin. In 2006, I earned my teaching degree whilst studying the double bass with Lode Leire at the same conservatory. I gained my degree for Double Bass in 2009.

With over 20 years of performance experience across Europe, Canada, and South Africa, I’ve played with orchestras such as the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Antwerp Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as bands like Hooverphonic. I’ve collaborated with numerous renowned artists, including Gloria Estefan, The Beach Boys, Wyclef Jean (The Fugees), Robin Gibb (The Bee Gees), Coolio, UB40, Nile Rodgers, The Pointer Sisters and Boy George.

For more than two decades, I’ve been dedicated to sharing my musical expertise with students of all ages as a qualified cello and double bass teacher in several Belgian music academies.

Together with my wife, Jozefien Peelman, and our children I relocated to Adelaide in 2024. Since moving here, I’ve been teaching cello and/or double bass at Scotch College, Loreto College, and Adelaide High School. I have also provided temporary instruction at Marryatville High School and Stradbroke Primary School via the Department for Education SA. In the meantime, I’ve performed at the Adelaide Festival Theatre, Elder Hall and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
